Wrapped
For your protection . . .
We have sat beneath this covering, this wrapped structure, several times, even though we couldn’t see it. It isn’t at all apparent from our seats in the concert hall. Under the smooth, polished shell of the Kauffman Center’s Helzberg Hall, under the roofing and substrates, under the green zinc chromate sheathing, under the immense steel superstructure that supports the roof, is this cover, this insurance policy against the elements, a covering that keeps the outside world, well, outside in case the exterior is compromised in any way.
If there’s a lesson here it’s this: We don’t always see the things that protect us, that support us, and ultimately defend us. The times we’ve defended one another, and all the things that are important to us and those we care about, are all the coverings that we need against the ravages of an insensitive world.
